Going from Birmingham to Beijing

Posted by admin on December 20, 2017

The year is almost behind us and 2018 is quickly approaching. I didn’t add any hardware to the collection in 2017 and fell well short of the goals I had set when the year began, but looking back I realize it was one of the most rewarding and memorable years of my entire life and career. >> read more

Daily Limit: Tharp bassin' in China

Posted by admin on December 14, 2017

The main purpose of Randall Tharp’s trip to China was to work on his signature line of rods with the manufacturer. As the first American bass pro to fish there, he was surprised to see how many Chinese have been hit hard by the bass bug.

“The coolest thing for me was getting to fish,” Tharp said. “I got to meet this group of guys, basically like a bass club, and it was one of the better lakes in the entire country. They followed me around, filmed me for a couple days. They were just fascinated. I think I showed them some things they’ve never seen before.” >> read more

Our Favorite Moments of 2016

As one of the newer guys on the tournament coverage crew, the first victory I was able to witness in person was Randall Tharp winning the Bull Shoals/Norfork event. I've always known that something special happens to an angler as he locks into the pattern on Championship Sunday to win a 4-day event. I just hadn't ever watched it happen. Randall Tharp overcame a difficult 2015 season with a tremendous showing in 2016, including this win. I was in a boat just 20 yards from Tharp as his final day came together in an impressive manner; just as I knew it would something special happened and he couldn't make a bad move.

It was Tharp's turn to win -- he knew it and I knew it. What made me respect him and his victory even more is the level of emotion he showed back stage before weighing his fish. He knew he had the right fish and could barely keep it together as numerous members of the media tried to get some insight from him. That raw emotion shows a man's guts and heart, and Tharp ain't afraid to show either. That was a special moment during a special day. > read more

Rolling into next season

Posted by admin on November 23, 2016

A month ago I pulled my Phoenix out of the water at the AOY Championship, ending my 2016 tournament season. I dropped it off in Kentucky at its new home, and the minute I arrived back here in Florida, I started preparing to do it all over again. If you follow us closely on the Bassmaster Elite Series you know that for the last several seasons we have kicked off our year in February, at the Bassmaster Classic. That leaves roughly three to four months of “downtime” to get ready. That seems like plenty of time, right? >>> read more
